Google Ads

Updated by Spencer

Connecting Google Ads brings your daily ad spend — Search, Performance Max and every other campaign type — into UpSmith, so Ask Jenny can put cost next to the leads and jobs it paid for.

Google Ads and Google Local Services Ads share one Google login. Connecting either one connects both, and logging out of either disconnects both.

Before you begin, you'll need

  • The Google login that can see your Google Ads accounts. If your ads run under a manager (MCC) account, use a login that can reach it.

  • If you've already connected Google Local Services Ads, you're already connected here. Skip to Turn on your accounts.

Connect it

  1. Go to Integrations and find the Google Ads tile under Advertising. Click Connect.

  2. Sign in to Google and allow UpSmith access to your Google Ads data.

  3. You're sent back to UpSmith. In the background, UpSmith finds every Google Ads account your login can see, including ones under a manager account.

Turn on your accounts

A Google login often sees accounts that aren't yours — an agency's other clients, or sister companies. So UpSmith only pulls spend from accounts you turn on: "Turn on the Google Ads accounts that belong to your business. UpSmith only pulls ad spend from accounts you turn on."

  • Each account shows its name and its ID (xxx-xxx-xxxx). Turn on the ones that are yours, or click Turn on all.

  • Accounts tied to your Google Local Services Ads account are turned on for you.

  • If an account says "Another UpSmith account can also see this one. Contact UpSmith to confirm it's yours", its switch is locked. Email us and we'll confirm it.

If UpSmith manages your Google accounts for you, the card says so instead: "Your Google accounts are managed by UpSmith." Email us to change which accounts track spend.

What connecting actually gets you

  • Daily numbers for every campaign. Cost, impressions, clicks, conversions and conversion value, phone calls, and impression share.

  • Ready-made numbers in Ask Jenny. Ask for Google Ads spend, click-through rate, average cost per click, cost per conversion, conversion rate and return on ad spend.

  • Cost per lead and per job. Ask Jenny to put Google spend next to the leads and booked jobs it brought in.

UpSmith syncs once a day and right after you connect. This connection tracks spend only. Leads and calls from Google arrive through Google Local Services Ads.

Turning it off

Click Log Out and confirm. The dialog warns: "This will disconnect your Google Account. You will no longer receive new leads from Google LSA, and UpSmith will stop tracking your Google Ads spend."

Logging out disconnects Google Local Services Ads too, so your agents stop getting LSA leads. To stop tracking one Google Ads account but keep everything else, turn that account off instead.

Troubleshooting

Needs attention: "We can't see any Google Ads accounts for your Google connection." The Google login you used can't reach your Ads accounts. Log out and connect with one that can — remembering this reconnects LSA too.

Needs attention: "We found Google Ads accounts for your connection, but none are enrolled for spend tracking yet." Turn on the accounts that belong to your business on the card.

"We haven't found any Google Ads accounts under your Google login yet." UpSmith may still be looking. Check back in a few minutes; if it stays empty, your login can't see any Ads accounts.

"Couldn't load your Google Ads accounts" or "Couldn't update this account." Refresh the page and try again. If it repeats, email us.

"Contact UpSmith to change which Google Ads accounts track spend." UpSmith manages your accounts. Email us with the change you want.
