Microsoft Ads

Updated by Spencer

Connecting Microsoft Ads brings your Microsoft Advertising (Bing) campaign spend into UpSmith every day, so Ask Jenny can put cost next to the leads and jobs it paid for.

There's no key to copy. You sign in to Microsoft Advertising once and UpSmith reads every ad account that login can see.

Before you begin, you'll need

  • The login you use at ads.microsoft.com, with access to at least one ad account.

  • Know how that login signs in. Some Microsoft Advertising logins use a Microsoft account and some use Google. You'll pick the matching button.

Connect it

  1. Go to Integrations and find the Microsoft Ads tile under Advertising. Click Connect.

  2. Click Sign in with Microsoft, or Sign in with Google if that's how you sign in at ads.microsoft.com. The card reminds you: "Use the same sign-in you use at ads.microsoft.com. If you sign in there with Google, choose Sign in with Google."

  3. Sign in and allow UpSmith access.

  4. You're sent back to UpSmith and see "Microsoft Ads connected". The card lists the accounts under "Syncing daily spend for…", by name and number. Accounts that aren't active show their status in brackets, like (Paused).

There's no account to pick: UpSmith syncs every ad account the login can reach.

What connecting actually gets you

  • Daily spend by campaign. Spend in your account's currency, impressions, clicks and conversions for each campaign, every day.

  • Ready-made numbers in Ask Jenny. Ask for Microsoft Ads spend, impressions, clicks, conversions, click-through rate, average cost per click, cost per conversion and conversion rate.

  • Cost per lead and per job. Ask Jenny to put Microsoft spend next to the leads and booked jobs from Bing, so you can see what each one cost.

UpSmith syncs data daily.

Turning it off

Click Disconnect and confirm: "UpSmith will stop syncing spend and remove its stored Microsoft credentials. Spend already synced stays. You can reconnect later." Then you'll see "Microsoft Ads disconnected".

Troubleshooting

"This Microsoft Advertising login uses Google sign-in. Choose Sign in with Google instead." (or the reverse) You pressed the other button. Start again with the one it names.

"This Microsoft account has no Microsoft Advertising access." The account you signed in with isn't the one that runs your Bing ads. Sign in with that one.

"This Microsoft account has no ad accounts." The login works but can't see any ad accounts. Click Disconnect, then sign in with the account that manages your Bing campaigns.

The badge says Needs attention: "Microsoft no longer accepts UpSmith's sign-in, so spend has stopped syncing." The sign-in expired or was revoked. Click the sign-in button you used before and sign in again. Your history stays, and the missing days fill in on the next sync.

"Microsoft sign-in was cancelled." The sign-in window was closed before it finished. Start again.

"Microsoft did not accept the sign-in" or "Microsoft did not return an authorization code." The handoff didn't finish. Try connecting again.

"Microsoft Advertising could not be reached. Please try again." Microsoft didn't answer. Try again in a few minutes. If it repeats, email us.
